Sbarro

When I’m in NCR i would never skip dining at my all time favorite pizza the Sbarro, fresh italian cooking. They are all over metro manila, in cebu and iloilo. So i had my way taking LRT 2 purple line then drop off at Araneta, Cubao Station to search for sbarro, which i’ve heard we would pass by 3 to 4 malls before reaching to Ali Mall where Sbarro is situated. Ali Mall is the Philippines oldest mall since 1976 it is named after the famous boxer Mohammad Ali.

It’s true we entered to Farmer’s Mall walking thru connecting footbridge to Gateway Mall then exited, to the streets passing Shopwise then entered to SM Cubao then gone to Second floor where there’s a bridgeway connecting thru Ali Mall.

So when we’re there, I ordered for a take out the Sbarro’s world famous super supreme pizza whole, which tag at a price of 912.00 pesos. All Sbarro pizza is made with the finest ingredients, served in huge portions and it’s so delicious. With only one pizza slice, it’s guaranteed to make your tummy so happy.

While waiting for our take out order. We take an opportunity to take pictures of the place and ordered some of their pizza and pasta which are readily available to eat in the restaurant.

We ordered Pasta Puttanesca at 96.00 it is made of penne, anchovies, capers, olives, Mama Sbarro’s pasta sauce and spices. Pasta Primavera at 119.00 it is made of rotini pasta, shrimp, squid, carrots, broccoli florets and garlic. Angus Cheese Steak Pizza at a slice of 186.00 it is made of mozzarella, cheddar cheese, thinly-sliced angus beef, roasted red pepper hulls, green peppers, onions and spices.

And lastly we ordered Stuffed Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza at a slice of 147.00 pesos it is made of mozzarella, italian sausage, pepperoni, romano cheese and spices.

Overall the pizza is so fantastic, it is on top of my list, truly my favorite pizza of all time.

I bring the sbarro super supreme pizza with me to davao despite of the delayed flight at the PAL airport for hours, when i’m in davao the taste of the pizza is still fresh and meatier, nothing has change,  just reheat it a minute in the oven. Two Thumbs up for Sbarro.

Super Bowl of China  is a chinese restaurant specializing chinese food which has been enjoyed a long history of success in the Philippines. Chinese dishes like Sweet & Sour Pork, Beef with Broccoli, Crispy Fried Chicken, Lemon Chicken, Birthday Noodles, Lechon Macau, Chopsuey, and Yang Chow Fried Rice these foods have long endeared ourselves and some filipino palate.

So first we ordered their soup of the day the Minced Beef West Lake Soup at a price of 95.00 pesos. It is consist of lean meat ground beef with green onions stir with fresh coriander leaves. The soup was very good, love the taste of it.

Another soup we ordered is Seafood Beancurd Soup also at 95.00 pesos. It is consist of Beancurd in small cubes in japanese it’s Tofu, mixed with chopped shrimps, crabmeat, scallops, green onions, ginger, salt and add splash of red wine vinegar or chili oil for the taste. I love this soup the Beancurd really melts in your mouth. I give this a Two thumbs up.

Superbowl of China rendition of the popular Pork Siomai at 120.00 pesos. It is consist of ground porkwhole and chopped shrimp, Chinese Black Mushroom, lye water dough. One of my fiance favorite when it’s come to chinese food, so i ask her to rate it. Then she said it’s just fair. The best Siomai she ever tasted is still at Dimsums Diner in davao city.

Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet at the price of 270.00. It is consist of of steamed fresh fish cut it into cubes and mixed it with bread crumbs and a pineapple sauce. Their fish fillet are fresh, tasty, and it cooked a chinese way.

Seafood Chopsuey at 195.00 pesos. It is consist of fish, shrimp, squid and egg cooked quickly with vegetables such as bean sprouts, cabbage and celery and bound in a starch-thickened sauce. It was very good, one of the best chopsuey i’ve ever taste.

Yang Chow Fried Rice is a Chinese barbecue flavored fried rice. compose of thin slices of roast pork added to the stir fried rice with the usual scrambled eggs and vegetables. Chinese style fried rice are usually stir fried at high heat. The taste is good.

Overall the food is Good, the service was nice, the waiter are attentive. Our bill total 1,143.00 quite reasonable. My fiance wasn’t able to rate this one. There are many excellent authentic chinese cuisine in Davao we had tasted and the better one is Ahfat Seafood Restaurant.

While waiting for a friend, its already lunch time, we’re hungry i’m thinking to have lunch at Flapjacks since i’ve already dined in that restaurant before which is a year ago, I want something new so we headed all the way to the Promenade at Greenhills where lots of food and restaurant gathered in one place, and the one nearer to the Theatre Mall I notice is Burgoo.

Anything Goes at Burgoo an American Bar and Restaurant which serves all American burgers, and sandwiches great meals in huge servings, sumptuous pastas, pizzas overloaded with toppings, hearty stews , freshly tossed salads, tender and hot off the grill steaks, juicy barbecues , tasty chicken and seafood grills, sinfully delicious desserts etc. The restaurant is so  comfortable it has a casual dining ambience adds character to the place with its elegant interior, charming bar and open kitchen. Burgoo does have all the essentials that make up a typical american place.

The restaurant offers quality food, legendary service, value for money and cleanliness . Their goal is to serve American food, American size in an American way. Just think of it, the restaurant is just as the same concept as TGIF, Italiannis, Flapjacks and Chili’s. In our locals it’s just like Coco’s Bar and Grill and Rolando’s Restaurant.

Luckily I availed Burgoo Restaurant 3 of a kind promo with a selections of Appetizers with a choice of Boneless Buffalo Chicken/Cheedar Cheese Fries, Pasta with a choice of Spaghetti Bolognese/Tomato Basil Spaghetti and Main Dishes with a choice of Country Style Fried Chicken/Breaded Pork Chops and a liter of Softdrinks a regular or coke zero, all for only 799.00 pesos.

So i choose a Boneless Buffalo Chicken at 295.00 it is made of chicken tenderloins seasoned with herbs and spices, deep fried ’till golden and tossed with spicy buffalo sauce. Served with crunchy celery sticks. The taste was very good, i love the spicy sauce blended with the chicken as well as their herbs and spicies.

For pasta i choose Tomato Basil Spaghetti at 425.00 it is made of garlic, tomatoes and basil leaves in olive oil and tomato basil sauce tossed with spaghetti pasta. The taste of their spaghetti is good, too much tomato sauce on it. So saucey…

And for the Main Dishes i choose Country Style Fried Chicken at 425.00 a seasoned chicken, deep fried to golden brown perfection. I love the taste of their chicken, excellent, Two Thumbs Up for this dish.

Overall, I enjoyed dining here, the food was excellent and tasty. I rate this resto “two thumbs up” .  Our bill suppose be 1,295.00 pesos with softdrinks plus the 10% service charge, since we availed of the promo we only billed  799.00 plus 71.40 pesos service charge. We had a savings of 496.00 pesos.

A Little Bit of History, the first stew originated in Kentucky, USA. During the 17th century , Burgoo was prepared mixing different meat that includes goat, squirrel, deer or any other game caught during the day and different vegetables , herbs and spices. At that time , Burgoo took all of 20-30 hours to prepare and cook . Our version is somewhat similar except now it cooks faster than the original using top choice of beef, pork and poultry . Almost an hour or more roaming around Greenbelt Mall in Makati City, sitting on the bench to relax our tired feet, it was dinner time and we’re craving on Pizza, so we get around Greenbelt 5 and i’ve notice on the 2nd level that there’s a pizza restaurant on it, the name of the restaurant is California Pizza Kitchen.

As a pizza enthusiast as what I’ve heard that this pizza restaurant started out in Beverly Hills, California in USA on March 27, 1985, attorneys Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax traded in the courtroom for the dining room. It was in 1998 when California Pizza Kitchen opened in the Philippines, making it as the first restaurant branch to operate outside the United States. Global Restaurant Concepts Incorporated (GRCI), the exclusive franchisee of CPK in the Philippines, brought the world-famous gourmet pizza brand to Glorietta Mall in Makati City and introduced its diverse products and unique dining culture to the Filipinos. It was my first time to dined in this restaurant so 1st I ordered their one of the best seller pizza the Original Barbeque Chicken Pizza Regular at 375.00 (Good for 3 to 4 persons) which is made of BBQ sauce, smoked Gouda, Mozzarella, BBQ chicken, red onions and cilantro. The taste was very good, it’s a pizza with a twist of barbecue, love the taste of it.

2nd I ordered Garlic Cream Chicken Fettucine Pasta at 270.00 pesos it is made of chunks of chicken, garlic-parmesan cream sauce with parsley. They combining the fresh ingredients. The taste of the pasta is very good, creamy and saucy, two thumbs up.

and lastly we ordered two Raspberry Ice Tea at 93.75 pesos each for our drinks.

Overall the service is good, we enjoyed the good meal, the price is reasonable we billed 931.34 pesos with a service charge. They are truly a passport to a one of a kind meal.

Greenbelt

I’m glad to have a fit or convenient time to do a window shopping at the Greenbelt in Makati City. What does window shopping means?  it means to look at merchandise in store windows or showcases without making purchases. Why do i don’t make purchases? due to expensive and jaw dropping merchandise and items that the store sells.

Greenbelt is an Ayala Malls, the one who gave Davao City Abreeza.  Due to my friend which previously visited there. I was curious of the place I want to see the stores that sells branded stuff items.  Greenbelt 4 and 5 was the place to be, a raw of High End stores and shops for the likes of Prada, Gucci, BVLGARI, Salvatore Ferragamo, Emporio Armani, Burberry, DKNY, Louis Vuitton, Hermes and many more.

Max's Restaurant Abreeza Ayala Malls

When Abreeza Mall opens last May 12, 2011, to my surprise Max’s Restaurant is back in Davao. It has opened it’s doors again for davaoeños to taste their great and best tasting foods and their specialty fried chicken. For me I’ve been to Max’s Restaurant in Manila and Luzon. I’ve been dining in their stores in Tutuban Mall Divisoria, Manila, in SM North Edsa branch and in Subic, Olongapo City.

Last Saturday I had an opportunity dine in on Max’s Restaurant in Abreeza Mall. The place was a bit jampacked, one of the hostess listed my name and tell us there are vacant table inside but they must clean the table first. So we sit on their chair outside waiting. Minutes later the hostess called my name and told us the table is ready. Then we place our orders. We ordered a Max’s Combo Meals  it’s made of their specialty Max’s fried chicken together with the choice Max’s dish! The best meal for the single diner.

The atmosphere in the restaurant was casual and it’s crowded. The bakery was nice it was place near the entrance area, with in minutes our orders arrived. The service is fast.

My partner ordered a Fiesta Plate Fresh it is a combination of Max’s quarter fried chicken that comes with fresh lumpiang ubod and steamed rice, a piece of caramel bar and a refreshing drink it cost 189.00 pesos.

I ordered a Platter Meal it is a combination of a quarter of Max’s mouthwatering Fried Chicken, a serving of steamed rice and serving of Pancit Canton. Served with a drink and Max’s very own caramel bar as dessert, it cost 199.00 pesos. The Chicken is very good and taste even better with Worcestershire sauce, two thumbs up for max fried chicken.

Chicken Velveteen Soup it is a combination of a creamy appetizing soup of sliced mushroom and milk with a chunks of breast chicken, it cost 41.00 pesos. The soup is good and creamy.

Buko Pandan Regular a refreshing dessert made of fresh buko strips, green gulaman and cooked tapioca. It is then flavored with sugar & pandan to give that appetizing aroma it cost 44.00 pesos. Their desserts is mouthwatering and good.

Ripe Mango Shake a refreshing drink made of fresh mango it cost 65.00 pesos. The mango shake is very good,  you can feel the mango strips while sipping the straw.

Overall it’s an enjoyable and satisfied meal in Max’s Restaurant we only billed 538.00 pesos. It is truly a tender, juicy and crispy chicken i’ve been tasted. I’ll will try their best seller crispy pata on my next visit.

A Little bit of history, way back 1945 fresh from the Liberation of Japanese invaders. Maximo Gimenez, a Stanford – educated teacher, befriended the American occupation troops stationed at Quezon City. Because of this friendship, the soldiers regularly visited Maximo. This prompted Maximo to open a cafá where the troops could enjoy food and drinks. The cafá initially served chicken, steak and drinks. Maximo’s niece – Ruby, who managed the kitchen, created a special recipe for chicken that became an instant favorite for the GIs. Soon, the Filipino public heard about the delicious chicken – tender, juicy and crispy – and they came too! Max’s Restaurant was born.

I’m so glad one famous restaurant finally opened here in Davao City last May 14, 2011 the name is Teriyaki Boy. They had branches from Tokyo, Osaka, Manila, Luzon, Cebu, Cdo and Now here in Davao. I never forget their one and only funny commercial way back in 2006 with a not so funny angry mascot.

Anyway since teriyaki boy opened in davao we never get a chance to dine in at their restaurant on a few weeks after the opening date, the place was always jampacked, lots of people came in and waiting in line seated outside the resto. Last weekend were able to dine with this casual dining japanese restaurant.

When were there, the place was hip and modern, the atmosphere is cool, with japanese music played on the background, love the interior blend with japanese designs, the waitress/hostess are nice, very pleasant place indeed.

We ordered Kanikama Roll (P 100.00) Crabsticks rolled with sushi rice and nori. Serve it in 8 pieces on a nice presentation dishes and it tasted good.

Their must try Katsudon (P 165.00) Breaded pork cutlet, deep fried and simmered in sweet soy sauce, onions and leeks, with beaten egg, topped on a bed of steamed rice. It’s one of my favorite japanese food. Katsudon here is good. But the one restaurant at uyanguren street really tasted better.

Their Best Seller and popular Teriyaki Boy Chicken (P198.00) Succulent grilled boneless chicken, marinated and cooked with their very own teriyaki boy sauce. I really love this specialty, the taste of the chicken is so tender and juicy, the sauce is so savory. It’s a Two Thumbs Up for me…

Of course a meal would never be complete without a drinks, a sweet way to cap off  our meal, so we ordered the teriyaki boy version of Watermelon and Mango Shakes (P 65.00 each), all I can say every ripe of the shake is yummy and refreshing.

Overall I have a very satisfying meal.  You can never go wrong if you dine in with this japanese resto, it’s so affordable we only billed 593.00 pesos for two. I can’t believe it, it so cheap for a japanese meal.

Cafe Laguna, Abreeza, Ayala Malls, Davao City

Cafe Laguna is owned by sisters Jill Urbina Viado and Grace Urbina Absin. They also owned Lemon Grass a thai-vietnamese resto in Cebu and Laguna Garden Cafe also in Cebu. Coming from the family who loves to cook and eat. The restaurant was started by their parents, who both hail from Laguna. Their mother loves to cook because her mother was also good cook, so they adopted the culture of cooking and eating at an early age. the family moved to Cebu from Laguna, in Luzon in 1975, when her father, a military doctor, was reassigned in Camp Lapu-Lapu, headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Central Command.

In the late 1980s, her mother Julita, who was then working at Montebello Hotel, started a small eatery to augment the family income and share her love for cooking. Later on, the self-service carinderia named Cafe Laguna, was converted into a fine-dining Filipino restaurant, where moderately-priced Filipino cuisine was served by waiters in a casual atmosphere.

Upon entering the restaurant, the waiter/waitress greeted us a warm welcome,  given us a table with a nice spot atmosphere on the window. They handed us the menu and i’m surprised the price is affordable, except for rice which priced at 38 pesos per cup. I ask the waiter what is their specialty then he quickly said all what you seen on our menu is our specialty, he recommend to try their best seller Beef Caldereta and Seafoods Sinigang at 245.00 pesos each, for desserts we ordered fruit medley at 95.00 pesos and some soda drinks at 30.00 pesos each.

While waiting for our orders I observed, the place was classy and elegant, the view from the restaurant is spectacular, I enjoyed seeing some different skyscrapers of davao.

Overall the Beef Caldereta is very good as well as Seafood Siningang, Fruit Medley is good. The price? We billed only 721.00 pesos for two. I really recommend Cafe Laguna for family or office gatherings and for the one who love Filipino Food Specialties. I really enjoyed the sumptuous meal of Cafe Laguna… Two Thumbs up…

While watching their menu, the staff is so accomodating and friendly, they ushered us into the restaurant. Luckily some seats and tables are vacant, the place was usually always full especially during lunch and dinner hours .

Mooon Cafe is a Mexican Inspired Restaurant, so we ordered their specialty Main Dishes the Mexican Baby Back Ribs at 225.00 pesos, it is made of pork baby back ribs topped with sweet tender sauce and buttered vegetable along with garlic rice.

Their best seller Moon Steak at 185.00, a sizzling pork steak with gravy sauce served with garlic rice and vegetable.

We also ordered a Pumpkin Soup at 58.00 pesos, a creamy pumpkin soup blended to a distinct flavor.

Solve it up with drinks a Reviving fruit combo and Stress buster smoothie at 60.00 pesos each and a Duet of Pomelo and Mango at 68.00 pesos.

 Overall, we have a nice fun satisying meal, the food is very good as well as the ambiance, the staff and the price, only 3 of us and we only billed 810.00 pesos

Italianni's Restaurant

I was blogging this restaurant last month and it’s my 2nd time around. Anyway, I like this restaurant because of their dedicated service of the waiter’s/waitress and staff, great hospitality to the customers and of course great food.

Since I already tasted their Main House Specialties, First I ordered salad I choose their specialty the Sicilian Chicken Salad Lunch at 425.00 pesos. The salad is compose of chicken breast turned it into chunks, fresh lettuce, mango, grapes and pine nuts tossed into a creamy lemon mustard dressing. All fruits and vegetables are served freshly. I really love the salad, Perfect, Two Thumbs Up.

2nd I ordered their new but one of the best sellers Quattro Carne Pizza at 450.00, The all time favorites in one special four meat pizza, it came with a different toppings bacon, italian sausages, pepperoni and parma ham, top it with tomato and cheese, its a soft crust pizza.  I’m still searching for the pizza that Julia Roberts eats in the movie Eat, Pray and Love. But I guess this one is nearer, It is really tasted truly an Italian pizza and it’s really good.

The last time after I dined at Italianni’s, they give me a courtesy card in which when I dine there for a 2nd time they will give me Angel Hair Pomodoro Pasta for free. So that’s what i did i use my courtesy card. The pasta was compose of chopped red tomato sauce saluteed with garlic in a tomato basil sauce, and the noodle was small and thinlike, it’s a vegetarian pasta it’s worth 350.00 pesos. All i can say it’s good coz it’s free but I recommend you their Specialty Shrimp Fra Diablo Pasta, it’s excellent.

And lastly we ordered drinks the Fresh Fruit Shakes, it cost 140.00 each we ordered Smoothies mixed with strawberry, banana and mango. It was truly refreshing..

I really enjoyed the satisfying meal at Italianni’s, My bill is supposed to be 1,559.92 but the angel hair salad is free so I billed 1,307.13. It was pricey and expensive but it’s worth it… Two Thumbs Up.. thanks again to the waitress who serve us Vanessa….

How do i define Italian Restaurant?

Traditionally, Italian restaurants have been owned by families using recipes and cooking skills inherited from the old country and served with warm-hearted hospitality.
